The Part 1 Theory Test is the first hurdle on your journey to becoming a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI). With the right preparation and support, you’ll be ready to pass this part confidently and move on to the next stages of your training.
1. Multiple-Choice Questions (PCQs):
This part of the test includes 100 multiple-choice questions on a range of topics, such as road safety, traffic laws, vehicle handling, and teaching techniques. You must score at least 85 out of 100 to pass.
2. Hazard Perception Test (HPT):
The second part of the test is the Hazard Perception Test, where you will watch 14 video clips and identify developing hazards on the road. You need a minimum score of 57 out of 75 to pass.

1. Commit to Regular Study:
Regular study is key. Plan your revision sessions and set aside time to review what you’ve learned each week.
2. Take Practice Tests:
Use our mock exams to simulate the real test experience. The more you practice, the more comfortable you’ll feel on the actual exam day.
3. Watch Hazard Perception Clips:
The hazard perception test can be tricky, so take time to watch clips, practice your reactions, and get used to identifying potential hazards.
4. Get Feedback:
After each practice test, review your answers and ask for feedback from your tutor. Understanding where you went wrong will help you improve quickly.
Once you pass Part 1: Theory, you’ll be eligible to move on to the next step of the ADI process: Part 2 – Advanced Driving Test. In this part, you’ll demonstrate your practical driving ability in front of a DVSA examiner.
